A Letter to All Overseas HBUT Staff and Students
Dear Overseas HBUT Staff Members and Students,
Heartfelt greetings and best wishes to you all!
The sudden outbreak of COVID-19 has blocked our journey for a reunion and disrupted our normal life and study. In the face of the epidemic, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core has always regarded people's health and safety as top priority. With firm confidence, national solidarity, scientific measures and precise policies, our domestic prevention and control has so far achieved staged victory. A positive trend continues to be consolidated, and regular economic activities and lifestyles are being restored. HBUT's preventative and control measures against the epidemic are also being implemented steadily; all staff members and students on campus are safe and sound. However, the disease keeps sweeping across the world, and many parts of the world are still confronted with severe challenges in the battle against the epidemic. At this moment in time, HBUT is highly concerned about your current status. In order to further strengthen the prevention and control, and guarantee your health and safety, we would like to put forward the following proposals:
1. Strengthening Self-protection
Please pay close attention to the information about epidemic in the country or region where you are living; comply with related policies and regulations from the local government, public health administration agencies and your hosting institutions, and be cooperative. Please strengthen self-protection: avoid gathering in any crowded environment and minimize mobility. If you have symptoms such as a fever, fatigue, and a dry cough, please seek timely medical attention and report to HBUT in time. For Chinese staff and students, you need to report to the Chinese embassy and consulate in your local region as well. The Global Consular Protection and Service Emergency Hotline of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: +86-10-12308, +86-10-59913991).
2. Fighting against the Epidemic Rationally
Please maintain a rational and positive attitude towards the epidemic, and obtain knowledge about epidemic prevention and control via authoritative channels. Do not believe or spread rumors; consciously safeguard the interests and honor of China; take preventative measures in a scientific way; maintain good physical and mental condition; eliminate anxiety and panic; take appropriate physical exercises; make a proper arrangement of your daily life; keep improving yourself by making full use of remote classes and online educational resources, and complete your academic and research assignments on time.
3. Staying in contact
Please maintain a close contact with your school(department), counsellor or tutor and report your health condition on a daily basis; regularly report your plan and arrangement about work or study, and inform them of your concerns as well as the problems you encounter in study and daily life at the moment. Currently, entry into China by foreign nationals holding valid visas or residence permits is being suspended. Therefore, all HBUT foreign staff members and students who are out of China should postpone your plan of entry until further official notice is released. We will keep you informed of policy updates via your contact person, and thus staying in contact is of vital importance.
4. HBUT Campus Remaining Closed
At present, the epidemic is still rampant all over the world, with a lot of uncertainty and unpredictability about its development, which brings about an increasing level of risk for travelling. In response to the requirements of the Central Government of China as well as the education authorities, HBUT has postponed the 2019-2020 spring semester and adopted the mode of online-based teaching and learning as an alternative, with its planned education activities being carried out steadily. We would kindly remind you that you should try to adapt to the current situation, carefully follow HBUT’s arrangement and proactively get involved in online teaching and learning. In the meantime, please take all necessary preventative measures for personal protection. Please be aware that HBUT will remain closed and you must not return to campus without a notice about its opening officially released by HBUT.
“Fear not the want of armor, for mine is also yours to wear”. During this special period, China and HBUT will serve as your powerful anchor and warm shelter. At all times we are concerned about your health and safety. We sincerely appreciate your understanding of, and cooperation with, what we have been doing to combat the epidemic. We wish you and your family all the best. Let’s join hands and make concerted efforts to overcome the hardship. Let’s look to the prospect of the upcoming spring, when the epidemic is resolved and we meet again on campus that is alongside the beautiful Xunsi River.
The above proposals are hereby put forward.
